Elgin Turret Lathe

The Elgin Tool Works Turret Lathe is a dedicated production machine designed for efficient, repeatable turning operations. Unlike a conventional engine lathe, the turret design allows multiple tools to remain preloaded and ready for use, significantly reducing setup times and improving productivity during repetitive machining operations. This capability makes the machine well suited for production runs, secondary operations, and the manufacture of turned components requiring multiple machining processes.

Production Turret Configuration

The Elgin Tool Works Turret Lathe features a multi-station turret design that allows multiple tools to remain mounted and ready for use throughout the machining process. This configuration significantly reduces setup time between operations and improves efficiency when producing repeat components requiring drilling, turning, boring, reaming, and threading operations.

Variable Speed Spindle Drive

Equipped with a variable speed spindle drive, the Elgin provides the flexibility to optimize spindle speeds for a wide range of materials and machining operations. This capability allows operators to quickly adjust cutting conditions for improved surface finishes, increased tool life, and efficient material removal across a variety of production applications.

5C Collet Workholding System

The machine utilizes a 5C collet workholding system, providing exceptional concentricity, repeatability, and rapid part loading. The 5C system is particularly well suited for bar work, production runs, and precision turned components where consistent workholding and quick changeovers are critical to maintaining productivity.

Threading & Tapping Capabilities

The Elgin is equipped with both a Geometric die head and Geometric tapping head, allowing for efficient production of threaded components. These systems provide a fast and repeatable method for producing external and internal threads while reducing cycle times compared to conventional single-point threading methods. Combined with the machine's turret configuration, this capability makes the lathe particularly well suited for the manufacture of threaded shafts, fittings, spacers, bushings, and production hardware.
