Work Envolope

The GMC GML-1440BGF toolroom lathe features a 14 inch swing over the bed and 40 inches between centers, providing the capacity to machine a wide range of shafts, bushings, spacers, tooling components, and custom turned parts. Its generous work envelope allows for both small precision components and larger industrial applications while maintaining excellent dimensional accuracy.

Precision Toolroom Construction

Built as a true toolroom lathe, the GML-1440BGF is designed for precision turning, facing, boring, threading, and custom machining operations. Its rigid construction, hardened ways, and precision spindle assembly provide the stability necessary for maintaining tight tolerances and producing high quality surface finishes.

Workholding Configurations

The GMC GML-1440BGF is equipped with multiple workholding solutions to accommodate a wide range of turning applications. Current configurations include a 5C lever collet closer for high precision bar work and small diameter components, a 6 inch three jaw chuck for general purpose turning operations, an 8 inch four jaw independent chuck for irregular or precision indicated workpieces, and a 10 inch faceplate for large, custom, and off center setups. This versatility allows the machine to efficiently handle everything from prototype components and tooling details to repair work and specialty machining projects.

Quick Change Tooling System

The lathe is equipped with an Aloris style quick change tool post system, allowing tooling to be changed quickly while maintaining repeatable tool positions. This system reduces setup time, improves efficiency, and provides the flexibility to rapidly transition between turning, facing, boring, grooving, threading, and parting operations. The result is a more productive machining process and faster turnaround times for both prototype and production work.
